Maxon Guitar Pedals – Boutique Guitar Effects

Maxon OD808 Overdrive Vintage Guitar Pedal

Maxon Guitar Pedals are designed and manufactured by the Nisshin Onpa Company of Japan. The Maxon brand of audio electronics was formed in the 60s, being one of the first companies to identify the market for add on effects for guitar players. In the 70s Maxon developed a line of compact guitar effect units and marketed them in Japan. These early models are now available as the Maxon Guitar Pedals Reissue Series. The larger Ibanez Company soon took notice of the popularity of the Maxon pedals and licensed the designs from Maxon for distribution around the globe under the Ibanez brand name. This is why the early Maxon and Ibanez pedals look very similar.

Until 2002 Maxon was responsible for the design and manufacture of many Ibanez guitar pedal products, including the legendary TS-808 Tubescreamer and TS-9 Tubescreamer, the rare Flying Pan, and the popular Sound-Tank series. Over the years the companies did less and less business together, until the only unit being built by Maxon was the TS-9 Reissue. Eventually, in 2002, Maxon ceased manufacture for Ibanez and began marketing several of the original Nine Series models under their own Maxon brand name.
